Queens Fire Victim Had Been Beaten
June 16, 2008
As investigators began focusing yesterday on at least two suspects in the deadly Queens fire that killed three children and their father, a preliminary report by the city’s medical examiner showed that one of the victims may have been assaulted before dying of smoke inhalation, the authorities said.
Law enforcement officials familiar with the case said that an autopsy of 14-year-old Felicia Etwaroo showed that her skull had been fractured and her nose broken at some point before the blaze, which arson investigators have determined was intentionally set by someone who poured flammable liquid in at least a dozen places in the house.
