Las Vegas Replica of the Statue of Liberty on U.S Postal Stamp

The U.S. Postal Service has mistakenly featured the New York New York Hotel’s replica of the Statue of Liberty on their newest postal stamp instead of the real thing. The post office thought their “forever” stamp of Lady liberty was the real thing. the real Statue of Liberty has remained on the tip of Lower Manhattan for 125 years, while it’s Las Vegas replica has been in existence for the last 14 years.

The mistake was discovered by an astute stamp collector. Even after the mistake was pointed out to the Postal Service they decided to leave the photograph as is. Spokesman for the Postal Service Roy Betts did say, “the post office regrets the error and is re-examining our processes to prevent the situation from happening in the future.” Betts also said, “We still love the stamp design and would have selected this photograph anyway.”
